The now redundant Airfield, has little concrete roads surrounding it I think they are called peri-tracks, it has amazingly bleak scenery and a very strange feeling when standing there alone with nothing or nobody near you for miles, today the wind was literally howling across the flat landscape. Folklore has it that this area is very haunted, (no night shoots for me here then!!)
The airfield was opened on 9 March 1944 and was first used by the United States AirForce 409th Bombardment Group, which arrived from DeRidder Airforce Base in Louisiana

This is a very nice landscape. The sky is ideal for that haunted feeling. Your photos are truely beautiful and I love the fact that as I am showing you more about the area I live in, you are showing me your world at the same time.
A bit frightening - the look of the place - not the ghosts!
Looks very much like something you'd find in the US. I like the patch of remaining road (but I don't think I'd like the cold wind). A few years ago, we had a chance to talk to an US airman who flew from England in 1944 after 3 months of flight school. This was at the Palm Springs Air Museaum. Also years ago while driving the backroads in Dalmatia - we came upon an old Royal Airforce plane in a field. (Sorry for the rambling...)
Beautiful shot, love the composition and that sky is awesome!
