Clematis Vitalba


The hedgerows are covered right now with these seed heads, it is known as " Old Mans Beard" or "Travellers Joy", It has green-white flowers, smelling of vanilla, from June to September, changing to attractive fluffy seedheads. Clematis is also known as Poor Man's Friend and Boys Baca - referring to the stems being used as a tobacco substitute !!!

Beautiful! Smokers might want to cultivate that plant in earnest - with the current economic crisis, one has to make use of all alternatives!!

I really love the colours in your flower shots. The background always seems to compliment them perfectly. Better not tell the other half about these flowers else I'll never get him to stop smoking...
